Visit of The Office For Foreigners Representatives in Kharkiv

Getting acquainted with the situation of internally displaced persons was the main purpose of the visit to Ukraine. The delegation of the Office for Foreigners have a meeting with the Consul of the Republic of Poland in Kharkiv and visited a center for internally displaced people in Romaszka.

The center in Romaszka provides shelter to those who had to leave the eastern territories of Ukraine covered by armed forces. Currently there are about 150 people who left the area of Donbas. The center operates thanks to, among others, the support of the Polish Center for International Support and the Minis Ministry of the Interior and Administration try of Foreign Affairs, which co-financed the renovation of the center.

The Office for Foreigners was also involved in supporting Ukrainian citizens of Polish descent who were evacuated to Poland from Donbas and Mariupol. The Office for Foreigners supported the actions of Caritas at accommodation of evacuated people at the Rybak center.

Internally displaced persons (IDPs) are people who had to leave their places of residence and go to another area within their own country. They are commonly referred to as internal refugees. In Ukraine there are more than 1 million IDP’s eg from the Donetsk and Lugansk areas.
