International Protection In The Eu: Data For The Third Quarter
According to Eurostat data, in the third quarter of this year the foreigners have issued in the European Union 358 thousand of first applications for international protection. Compared to the second quarter, a 17% increase is noticeable. In total, from January to the end of September, more than 950 thousand of people were registered in EU countries who applied for refugee status.
The most, nearly 88 thousand of the first applications for international protection, were issued by Syrian citizens. Over 62 thousand of the application was issued by citizens of Afghanistan and 36.5 thousand of Iraqi citizens. Foreigners from these three countries contain almost half of all applicants for protection in the European Union.
The largest number of first applications for international protection in the third quarter of this year were submitted in Germany – 237 thousand,that is about 66 percent of all applications. Italy recorded 34.5 thousand of applications, France 20 thousand, Greece 12.4 thousand, and Great Britain 9.2 thousand. According to Eurostat data, in Poland, 2.4 thousand first applications for international protection were registered in the third quarter of the year. They were mainly issued by Russians, Ukrainians and Tajikistan.
