Easo: 22nd Board Meeting

The migration situation in the south of Europe, the presentation of the current EASO activities and the plans for the year 2017 are the certain points of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) board’s meeting agenda. The data presented at the meeting prove that Poland is one of the countries most involved in EASO’s activities for Greece and Italy. The two-day meeting of the board was attended by Rafal Rogala, Head of the Office for Foreigners.

During the meeting of the EASO board were raised the issues concerning, among others, the question of the involvement of individual countries in actions in Italy and Greece. In the last 8 months, the experts of the Office for Foreigners have conducted 48 support missions in these countries, spending abroad 1,617 working days. The current situation in the so-called hot spots in Italy and Greece and the relocation of migrants there where also discussed.

The essential element of the board meeting was the adoption of the document „EASO Guidance on Standards and Indicators on Reception Conditions”. The material was developed to assist member states in implementing EU directives which determine standards for receiving applications for international protection. The document can serve as a model for developing and improving reception standards for foreigners seeking protection.

The European Asylum Support Office (EASO) is a European Union agency established to strengthen cooperation on asylum issues and to assist member states in fulfilling their European and international obligations in this area. EASO serves as an expert center of asylum issues. It also supports the member states whose asylum systems are the most burdened.
